REDEFINE MENTORING

Helping Black and Brown girls Redefine their Self Narrative through Biblical truths.

At Redefine Mentoring, we work each day to spread our message of hope and compassion. We believe that the ripple effects from a single action can make a difference in a young girls life. We know that in order to see change, it must start with us. This is why we partner with numerous outreach activities and advocacy to contribute to the greater good.

REDEFINE MENTORING AT A GLANCE

Redefine Mentoring knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions. Back in 2019, we began to partner with the public school systems and after-school programs in order to overcome some of the challenges for black and brown girls between the ages of 13-19 years old. Refefine Mentoring was launched with the hope to advocate for, build up, and empower each of the girls that we have the honor of mentoring.

GOOD TO KNOW

Reinforcing our Commitment

  • About 56% of Black youth recalled a time growing up when they wished they had a mentor but did not have one. Youth Research and Evaluation eXchange

  •  About 44% of Black youth reported barriers to accessing mentors during adolescence. Youth Research and Evaluation eXchange

  • Among those Black youth who did have a mentor, about 65% said it boosted their sense of pride and self‐esteem.

  • Access gap: Black and Latino youth are significantly less likely to have mentors despite higher demand and need.

  • Impact strength: When they do have mentors — particularly culturally competent ones — benefits are strong: higher self-esteem, better engagement, and improved college trajectories.

  • Quality & cultural responsiveness matter more than simple demographic matching.

  • Systemic barriers (funding, mistrust, school bias) limit reach, but relational, identity-affirming mentoring mitigates harm and fosters resilience.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

One Step at a Time

At Redefine Mentoring, we are dedicated to our efforts in addressing issues within the lives of the girls. We do this by:

  • Foster accountability by encouraging responsibility and self-awareness.

  • Promote healthy life choices such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and overall wellness.

  • Educate and raise awareness about the realities and prevention of human trafficking.

  • Inspire academic success by helping students set and achieve meaningful educational goals.

  • Provide relatable mentorship, offering someone they can talk to openly and honestly beyond the classroom setting.

  • Illuminate their potential—helping each student recognize and embrace the “gold” within themselves.

"This program was very instrumental in turning around the behaviors and future of the young girls that they serviced at our school. The leader was very personal and able to reach the most difficult child and had a very positive effect on their lives!" ~L. Bonner, Assistant Principal

"Redefine Mentoring has created a safe space for teen girls to be vulnerable about the challenges they are navigating while preparing them with the tools and wisdom to overcome them!" ~Denyce Nikole, Founder of Babymama Makeover

"One thing I liked about Redefine was how we talked about things that we maybe wouldn't talk to with our own parents and how Mrs. Aisha gave off a nice motherly vibe that made us feel safe and comfortable." ~A.K. (12th grade student).
